The museum staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They have resources that I have found no place else and I have traveled widely in my Acadian research.

They have genealogical resources and publications in both French and English, periodicals, texts, donated family histories that focus primarily on the Acadians of this region but also reach back beyond to the ancestors of these peoples in Port Royal, Minas Basin, Grand Pre and elsewhere as well.

We visited the museum while exploring some of my wife's Acadian past. The girls giving tours were sweet and very knowledgeable. Well worth a visit to learn about the history of the Acadians in this part of Nova Scotia.

There is a treasure trove of information on YOUR Acadian family roots just WAITING for you -- at the "Acadian Museum of Pubnico and Research Centre". This was THE highlight and THE goldmine of our trip to Nova Scotia...as we were seeking info on family roots. We were thrilled to talk to database technician and local archivist Bernice D'Entremont who found 11 generations of our family history in their database. We came back 1 day later for a printed 35 page report ready to take home; pretty exciting! Mr. Real D'Entremont toured us through an actual planted Acadian garden of foods that would be available to the peoples of the 1600's (they had no potatoes!). We discovered that Nasturtium flowers and leaves they used in salads are actually delicious! We had a guided tour of the museum with a knowledgeable local interpreter who imparted fascinating facts about the start of this part of our country and Baron Phillippe D'Entrement who came from France to establish this area, and the great deportations that sent thousands of people to other countries and away from their cherished land. Many worked diligently to return and some eventually succeeded, and their desendents live here to this day. Worth the visit; very affordable; friendly and oh so very helpful staff! If you like photography there's quite a display of actual very old, vintage cameras through the ages. Gift shop has Acadian history books you won't find elsewhere, Acadian music CDs, hand made artistry, lots of quilts, as well as small affordable and fun items to take home to family. Just GO.
